ANGUILLA--Governor Tim Foy was joined by Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon at the Governor’s House on Monday, May 28, to recognise police officers who attained eighteen years of valuable and diligent service to the community with the Royal Anguilla Police Force (RAPF), and present them with the long-term service medal. Master of ceremonies, Commissioner of Police Paul Morrison welcomed all guests present with special acknowledgment given to the families of the officers receiving their medals.

The contingent of thirteen RAPF medal awardees included officers who had previously reached their eighteen-year long-service recognition but had not been issued their medal. Each medal bears the officer’s name.

Governor Foy thanked all the officers for their service and then thanked their families, noting that it is not easy being a family member of a police officer, and that they are part of the extended police service. He said, “This is a police force that not only does the spit and polish extremely well, but more importantly, it is a police force that the public has more trust and confidence in than ever before, which is testimony to a police force that has pursued transformative practices to better protect and provide service to the public. It is important that we continue to recognise and be appreciative of those who put country before self and family.”

Lord Ahmad added that he was immensely pleased to take part in the ceremony celebrating the officers who epitomised the best of public service and kept Anguilla’s citizens both safe and secure.

Commissioner Morrison said these award ceremonies are testimony to the individuals who often put themselves in harm’s way, dealing with difficult situations where things have gone wrong. He said, “Our police force has invested a lot of training time to learn how to better deal with victims of crime as well as the suspects and defendants so that better outcomes can be achieved in court.”

Governor Foy presented each awardee with their medal, followed by the lowering of the flag in the flag sunset ceremony, and a reception.
