      Anguilla’s Budget to be  presented on April 15

ANGUILLA--It has been announced that the Budget will be presented in the House of Assembly at the Atlin Harrigan Parliamentary Building, by Premier and Minister of Finance Victor Banks on the afternoon of April 15 through the Appropriation Act (2020). The total recurrent expenditure is estimated at EC $241,473,676 and the capital expenditure is estimated at EC $15,517,875.

  Banks will give an address outlining the expenditure for 2019 and the estimates for 2020. The following week parliamentarians will discuss the Budget, adjustments may be made and it will be passed. It then goes to Governor Tim Foy to be signed for enactment.

  The recurrent expenditure includes almost EC $98 million for the Ministry of Finance that includes investment, commerce, tourism and information technology. An amount of approximately $47 million is scheduled for the Ministry of Social Development, $43 million for the Ministry of Labour, Information and Education, $35 million for the Governor’s office and $17 million for the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, Utilities, Housing, Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment.

  Capital expenditure includes nearly $5 million for the Ministry of Home Affairs, $7 million for Ministry of Finance, $3 million for Infrastructure plus smaller amounts for Social Development and other ministries.

  The Budget address is usually an occasion for persons in the community to attend, but this year because of COVID-19 it will be limited to the parliamentarians and court officials.
