ST. EUSTATIUS--The annual island clean-up for 2018, spearheaded by Gwendoline van Putten (GvP) School, in partnership with St. Eustatius National Parks Stenapa and other stakeholders will kick-off on Monday, June 25.

School children and volunteers will come together Monday to demonstrate their civic duty and a desire to have clean and wholesome environment, said Stenapa’s Volunteer Education and Outreach Officer Achsah Mitchell.

Mitchell said that in keeping with “Leave No Waste Behind” and the Greenpeace slogan “No Time to Waste”, this event aims to engage the youth.

“The time for change is shorter and more effective when you work with those who are still growing up in our society, bringing about a more excellent and prosperous country,” she said.

The students, she said, will learn that basic housekeeping practices that keep their homes healthy and safe also play a role on the island’s roads. “A home for everything and everything in its home,” Mitchell stated.

The areas that are being targeted for the clean-up include Zeelandia, Jeems Road, Christine Flanders Road, Kapelweg, Wilhelmina Park and Van Tonningenweg, Mitchell said.
