Dirkje van den Heuvel-de Jonge
PHILIPSBURG--General pension fund administrator APS surprised its member Dirkje van den Heuvel-de Jonge on November 6 with a congratulatory bouquet and card in honour of her 100th birthday.
Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on November 6, 1918, she became a member of the pension fund when she moved to the former Netherlands Antilles in 1953. She has resided in Curaçao, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten. She worked as a Spanish, biology and Dutch teacher at the former MULO in St. Maarten.
“These moments are beautiful reminders of how important our responsibilities to our members are. We are happy to see our members enjoy their retirement, no matter where in the world, and it is an honour to be part of that. With our commitment to our work, they can continue to enjoy their pension benefit after their years of dedicated service,” APS Director Nadya Croes-van Putten said.
Van den Heuvel-de Jonge was originally a member of the APNA pension fund, which was dissolved on October 10, 2010, and transitioned to become a member of the APS pension fund. She now resides and enjoys her love for plants and gardening in Terneuzen, her husband’s hometown.
She met her husband in Curaçao when she moved to the former Netherlands Antilles in 1953. Their two daughters were born and raised in St. Maarten until the family returned to the Netherlands in 1973. APS said it is honoured to be able to acknowledge and welcome Van den Heuvel-de Jonge to “the elite group of centenarians around the world.”
