Minister Emil Lee and an AUC representative.
PHILIPSBURG--American University of the Caribbean (AUC) School of Medicine has presented a poster to Health Minister Emil Lee as a symbol of the university’s appreciation to the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development, and Labour VSA for partnering with the institution for its Community Action Days over the years.
AUC’s Community Action Day is a tradition that began in the Fall 2008 semester by two students and is now marking 10 years.
The event is held three times a year. Each Community Action Day provides opportunities for AUC physicians-in-training, faculty, staff, and family to focus on island priorities related to health and wellbeing, education, child development, environment and animal welfare.
The projects are planned by working with community partners. As part of its 10th anniversary, AUC recognised community institutions that partner with the university to develop and implement programmes that support health in St. Maarten, it was stated in a press release.
The VSA Ministry is a partner of AUC, which works closely with the Ministry’s Collective Prevention Services (CPS) to identify health priorities and implement programmes.
