Paramedics treating the injured cyclists on Wednesday morning.
BELVEDERE--The Traffic Department of the St. Maarten Police Force KPSM is investigating a collision involving a white Hyundai i20 and two bicycle riders that took place in the vicinity of Belvedere around 9:45am Wednesday.
According to information gathered by police, the driver of the white Hyundai i20 exited the Belvedere/Dutch Quarter roundabout and turned onto Bishop Hill Road. The cyclists were riding on Bishop Hill Road heading towards the roundabout.
The driver of the vehicle tried to turn left onto Belvedere Estate Road and did not give right-of-way to the oncoming cyclists, according to police. The bicycle riders were unable to brake in time and crashed into the turning car.
As a result of the collision both riders suffered bruises and contusions their bodies. They were treated at the scene by Ambulance Department personnel and were transported to St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) for further medical care.
“The personnel of the Traffic Department are investigating this accident,” said police in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.
