Collectivité files complaint over blatant sports ground vandalism

MARIGOT--The Collectivité condemns the act of vandalism perpetrated on equipment at the Concordia sports ground next to the Territorial Archives and Media Library and has filed a complaint with the Gendarmerie. The Collectivité had just installed equipment as part of the renovation programme to post-Irma sports facilities.

All basketball court equipment and handball goals were damaged and rendered unusable. The refurbishment work on this sports ground was completed in the last quarter of 2018 for an amount of 250,000 euros. The Collectivité now has to buy back the damaged equipment.

It wishes to bring this act of vandalism to the attention of all citizens so that they are informed and hopefully can give the Gendarmerie any information that may lead to apprehending the perpetrators.

The Collectivité reminds everyone that these public facilities are made available to sports associations for the benefit of sports in the territory. These unacceptable acts directly penalise the population and occurred only a few weeks after the end of the refurbishment work on the structure. The vandalism also endangered the safety of users as the vandals took time to unbolt the basketball hoop structure piece by piece and it could have fallen on a player.
