~ EHAS to be phased out by 2023 ~
PHILIPSBURG--COVID-19 insurance will no longer be mandatory for persons travelling to St. Maarten as of October 15, Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor VSA Omar Ottley announced during Wednesday’s live Council of Ministers press briefing.
According to Ottley, travellers will have the option to get COVID-19 insurance if they wish to do so.
Also as of October 15, residents of St. Maarten will no longer be required to have a test, regardless of their vaccination status, when returning to the country. “This is a phased approach, as we are now in the endemic,” said Ottley.
He said the plan is to phase out the complete Electronic Health Authorization System (EHAS) process by early 2023 to allow free flow and travel into St. Maarten, “as we see the rest of the world is now doing.”
According to the government of St. Maarten EHAS website, the insurance purchasing process has been an integrated step in the EHAS application. Travellers requiring COVID-19 insurance must complete this process on application.
