Reigning King Dibo D.

WILLEMSTAD--Registration for Curaçao’s annual Tumba Festival took place on Sunday. A total of 59 entries were submitted for the 50th edition of the competition to choose this year’s main Carnival song.

Chairman Manfred “Fecco” Gomez of Musicians and Artists Association AMAK announced that broadcaster TeleCuraçao had counted on 55 registrations and the actual number had exceeded all his expectations.

Among participants are former winners such as Farley Lourens, Ike Jesurun and Elia Isenia. “Rei di Tumba” 2019 Dibo D. will of course defend his crown.

The event at Festival Village starts on Monday, January 27, with three consecutive qualifying nights featuring about 20 performances each. The grand finale between some 30 songs to be selected by an expert jury is Friday, January 31.
