PHILIPSBURG--A group of local dancers joined Rio Productions for the celebration of fifty years of Carnival next year. Under the professional guidance of Giovanni Webster, the dance group will form its own section within the Rio Productions line-up for the first- and second-day parades.

Among the dancers who will participate in 50 years Carnival are Natorii Illidge, Rochelle Muller, Eolia Ada Kellowan and Stefania Gumbs-Kong. These dancers are all true professionals and recognised in the region for their great talent, enthusiasm and energetic performances.

Rio President Brenda Wathey stated on Sunday that she is deeply honoured that these local crown jewels have decided to team up with Rio. “They are amazing personalities that are truly passionate about their craft. Performing is part of their nature, so the spectators will have a lot to look forward to. The preparations for Carnival 2019 are in full swing,’’ she said.

Rio Productions opened registration two weeks ago and the prototypes for the different costumes are currently being worked on. The line-up from Rio Productions will be double the size it was in 2018; this is reason behind the preparation since October this year.

St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) announced April 22 to May 6, 2019, as the dates for the 50th anniversary of St. Maarten Carnival. It is expected to become one of the biggest festivals in the region with more participants and spectators than ever.

Rio Productions encourages each and every one to be part of Carnival’s Golden Anniversary.
