Doran to welcome public to voice concerns once a week

PHILIPSBURG--Residents who want to share their concerns, grievances and recommendations with Member of Parliament (MP) Jurendy Doran (National Alliance) can do so once a week starting on Wednesday, June 20. The “public day,” as Doran refers to it, is in keeping with a promise he made right after taking the oath of office before Governor Eugene Holiday as a first-term MP on April 2.

The one-on-one meetings will be organised via appointments. Appointments should be made by calling Jennifer or Johnny, tel. 542-2929, from 10:00am to 12:00pm Monday to Friday.

Doran believes that to provide proper representation, an MP should have an informed view of what is taking place in the community. No representative should make decisions on behalf of the people “without knowing the actual facts and complexities surrounding the issues, which can only be obtained with a hands-on approach and communicating with the persons concerned. … We all know that people tend to trust only what they can relate to.”

There is need for more public engagement between the people and their elected and appointed officials, he said, adding his excitement about the opportunity to interact with the public, young people in particular, “in a more personal setting.”
