MARIGOT—The Préfecture consented on Tuesday to allow French children who are based on the Dutch side to access their schools on the French side by applying for a transit authorisation. It said in the context of the start of the new school year, the complex situation of French children attending French schools while residing in St. Maarten needs to be taken into account.

The meeting to monitor the health situation on September 1 held with the Collectivité, Regional Health Agency ARS, and the Prefecture, addressed the issue of maintaining border controls.
The State confirms its position: the current health situation shows a very high circulation of the COVID-19 virus on the territory of St. Martin (153 active cases and 17 hospitalised persons, including two in intensive care in the Guadeloupe University Hospital).
In order to preserve the population, restrictions on movement between the two parts of the island must be maintained, the Préfecture stated.
