Electoral Law

Parliament Chairman Sarah Wescot-Williams recently met with the Electoral Council to hear its members’ views on her draft initiative law to amend the Electoral Ordinance. With the proposed amendment, she seeks to amend and make more efficient the law as far as this concerns the annual reporting by political parties and the stipulation that every year these reports must be accompanied by a Registered Accountant’s (RA’s) declaration. This terminology excludes Chartered Accountants or any other recognised accountant, not being an RA. In addition, the Council itself has made several observations and recommendations in its annual report 2014, which recently released and that deserve the attention of Parliament.
