MARIGOT--The French-side fire department (pompiers) responded around 9:00am Tuesday to a fire in Marigot higher up behind the former L’Oiseau Rare Restaurant at the foot of Rue de la République which burnt down in 2018.
The fire location appeared to be a shack that was reportedly being used by squatters. The fire was brought under control and extinguished fairly quickly. It was not known whether there was anyone inside the shack at the time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Meanwhile, The Daily Herald learnt of a fatal road accident involving a scooter rider in the French Cul-de-Sac area who was reportedly hit by a truck and died of his injuries. No confirmation of this accident or details could be obtained from the Gendarmerie by press time.
Also under investigation is the fatal shooting of an individual on a scooter around 2:00am Monday. The Gendarmerie had indicated Monday that this incident is being treated as a suspected homicide. The Gendarmerie could not be reached on Tuesday evening for a follow-up.
