First Aruba COVID-19 death

First Aruba COVID-19 death

ORANJESTAD--Aruba reported its first COVID-19 related death today, Wednesday.

Early Wednesday morning, a 79-year-old patient passed away at the Horacio Oduber Hospital. The patient is the first person to succumb in Aruba to COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.

The family of the patient has been informed, and more information will be provided later today during a press conference. The Aruba government and the health care system are doing all they can to prevent COVID-19 patients from dying, but unfortunately this cannot always be averted.

Government again urged people to comply with the instructions to stay inside, to maintain social distancing and to use good personal hygiene. Aruba has, so far, 92 confirmed infected persons, of which 32 have already been declared virus-free.

Some 1,150 tests were carried out. 103 persons were in quarantine on Monday, eight persons were hospitalised of which three in the intensive care. It is not clear as yet whether the first fatality was in the intensive care.
