CAY HILL--Forty-six individuals participated in the Mental Health Foundation (MHF) “Hike for Mental Health” on Saturday, October 26. Hikers began their journey at Safe Cargo in Pointe Blanche at 6:00am, made their way up the hill to the lookout point near the Pelican Peak zip line and returned to the starting location.

“Getting away from the stress of daily life and connecting with nature is a re-grounding experience which can have a significant positive impact on one’s mental well-being,” stated organisers Ryane Bowers and Cyrille Brooks in a press release on Monday.

“The idea for this hike was to showcase an activity in support of eliminating the stigma of mental disorders. We are convinced that there is more pain caused by the stigma than by the disease. Because of the stigma, the issues are not being treated and with one in four adults experiencing mental illnesses at one point in their lives, we all know someone who is affected.”
