The Gendarmerie’s nautical brigade was part of the team checking the administrative status of vessels in the Lagoon.
MARIGOT--On Tuesday, September 12, a task force made up of the Territorial Unit of Direction de la Mer, the Gendarmerie’s nautical brigade, accompanied by an agent from Établissement Portuaire de Saint-Martin (EPSM) carried out checks on around 30 vessels anchored in Simpson Bay Lagoon.
This inspection is part of the risk prevention programme during the hurricane season, and to check the administrative status of vessels on the French side of the island.
On this occasion, a letter from the Direction de la Mer was left on each vessel in the absence of its owner, requesting the latter to report to the Territorial Unit, located at the Cité Administrative de l'État in Concordia, before Friday, September 22, to present their registration certificate.
After this deadline, administrative action will be taken against offenders. Owners are reminded that they must be able to show proof of registration of their vessel, and of the various formalities required by the port authority. Failure to comply with regulations means vessels will be ordered to leave.
Further inspections will be carried out in the coming weeks.
