Ronald Korstanje of Korstanje Services (right) and John de Bruin of John’s Handyman Services put finishing touches to paintwork on one of Oranjestad’s iconic sights in the Urban Conservation Area.

The building on the site of a former Governor’s residence and originally from the early 1900s, now houses the Centre for Youth and Family in St. Eustatius. “It was quite an extensive paint job,” says Korstanje. “Buildings in Statia should really be painted every two and a half years. Many of the upright slats were weather beaten. We also were obligated to strengthen the ornamental gate for beautification purposes. The facade is now a picture postcard.
