MARIGOT--President of the Collectivité Daniel Gibbs has welcomed the appointment of Sébastien Lecornu (34) as Minister of French Overseas Territories, succeeding Annick Girardin who is now Minister of the Sea.
Lecornu was formerly Minister in charge of Territorial Collectivités. He has been to St. Martin several times in a working capacity.
Newly installed Prime Minister Jean Castex, who took over from Édouard Philippe, unveiled the composition of the new government on Monday.
“I know we can count on Minister Lecornu’s support and his already good knowledge of St. Martin to defend the interests of our territory and, more broadly, those of all the overseas territories,” said Gibbs in a statement. “Alongside this new team, we will continue the work we have begun to promote the development of St. Martin and its inhabitants.”
Gibbs acknowledged Girardin’s commitment and work on behalf of St. Martin and other overseas territories, wishing her well in her new appointment as Minister of the Sea.
“This new ministry is an undeniable asset for the overseas territories and development of the blue economy,” he said. “St. Martin will do its utmost to interact with these ministries to accelerate development of new sea-oriented sectors for the benefit of the territory and its inhabitants.”
