HARBOUR VIEW--Governor Eugene Holiday has started consultations with the leaders of the four parties that gained seats in Parliament following Monday’s snap elections.
No informateur has yet been named to explore the formation of the country’s new coalition government. None of the four parties which earned seats have obtained the majority of eight of the 15 seats in the legislature to steer the country’s recovery post Hurricane Irma alone.
Consultations will continue today, Wednesday, with key players.
Party leaders are Member of Parliament (MP) Theo Heyliger (United Democrats), former minister Silveria Jacobs (National Alliance), retired pastor Wycliffe Smith (St. Maarten Christian Party) and MP Frans Richardson (United St. Maarten Party).
The United Democrats earned seven seats, one short of a full mandate. NA has five seats, SMCP one and US Party two.
The Governor has also held meetings with Parliament Chairwoman MP Sarah Wescot-Williams (United Democrats), Council of Advice vice chairwoman Mavis Brooks-Salmon and Central Voting Bureau Chairman Jason Rogers.
In all meetings, the election outcome and consequences for the formation process for a new cabinet were discussed.
