ANGUILLA--Governor Tim Foy and his spouse Dr. Dina Foy hosted an intimate dinner for visiting Lord Tariq Ahmad, Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office with responsibility for the Overseas Territories, and his travelling contingent at the Government House on the evening of Monday, May 28. Under a clear, moonlit evening, the British visitors mingled with government officials and industry leaders, enjoying easy conversation, comradery and a buffet dinner capping off a non-stop day filled with official meetings, island tours, document signings and numerous “meet and greet” appointments.

Governor Foy opened the evening by giving an abbreviated synopsis of all that Lord Ahmad saw and participated in during the day, and said, “This is now an opportunity to get to know a few of the people that make Anguilla what it is today.” He then turned the mic over to Lord Ahmad.

Lord Ahmad thanked the governor for his hospitality, saying that he was extremely taken aback by the warmth and the reception of the island. He said, “I am particularly grateful to the chief minister who promptly arrived after the break of dawn to take me to all the different parts of Anguilla, to include the schools, the hospital, a visit to one of Anguilla’s recent centurions, and a major private British investment. It gave me a true sense of Anguilla and who Anguillians are.” He summed up his impression of its people using the words integrity, passion, conviction and commitment for Anguilla and a great deal of pride and honesty. He said he appreciated the candid exchanges and honesty expressed to him. He said that he will leave Anguilla with a true picture and sense of what is important for Anguilla, enriched by the information and insight gained.
