  1. EUSTATIUS--A three-month series of health-awareness seminars came to a close on Wednesday, June 17, with a final session held for members of the Chapel Piece Health and Recreational Centre.

The weekly Wednesday sessions, which were all held at Chapel Piece, kicked off in January 2020 and were briefly affected by the coronavirus lockdown.

The seminars were a collaboration between My Health Clinic and Chapel Piece. Gynaecologist and health adviser in St. Eustatius Dr. Dorette Courtar covered a variety of topics such as: What is dementia?; Emotional health; Staying safe during the corona pandemic; and Elderly abuse.

The benefits of good nutrition were also stressed, with diets being presented to help decrease the chances for elderly persons to develop certain diseases.

Many of the centre’s 40-plus members attended the informative session. The senior citizens were provided with an opportunity for a two-way conversation with Dr. Courtar, during which the centre’s members posed questions and shared some of their life lessons.

The informative sessions were intended as a means to educate the Chapel Piece caregivers and to encourage their clients to be more aware of good health choices. Chapel Piece thanked Courtar and said it hoped that another set of seminars could be organised in the near future.
