CAY HILL--St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) is inviting companies to pre-register for World Bank-funded projects that will be up for public tenders and will be published soon via SMMC’s website.

SMMC recently signed an agreement to receive a US $25 million grant from the St. Maarten Recovery, Reconstruction and Resilience Trust Fund that is funded by the Netherlands and managed by the World Bank.

The grant will serve to improve services of the existing hospital building while the new hospital is being built, and to upgrade the design of the new hospital to withstand category 5-plus hurricanes. The overall objective is to improve the preparedness and capacity of hospital services in St. Maarten.

SMMC Manager of Facilities Erika van der Horst said, “In total we expect to have 15 World Bank projects up for public tender. The projects consist of the purchase of goods, several civil work projects in the field of construction, renovation and technical installation works.”

She said some public tenders for these World Bank projects will start in early December. “All projects are expected to be up for tender in the first half of the year 2019 and in order for a company to participate or if you are interested to participate in one of our World Bank Projects, we invite you to pre-register your company via the special World Bank section on our website:

smmc.sx/World-Bank/Projects.”

SMMC has launched a special unit that will oversee all procurement in relation to the World Bank projects which is called the Project Management Unit (PMU), which will keep interested companies updated and informed when the projects come up for tender and will able to send them the tender documents directly.

For project information, interested companies can check the World Bank section on the SMMC website under
