Law enforcement officers lined up with their vehicles in front of SMMC on Monday morning to show their appreciation to hospital staff.
CAY HILL--Officers of the St. Maarten Police Force KPSM and the Royal Dutch Marechaussee KMar, as well as personnel of the Royal Dutch Marine Corps, held a tribute for St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) workers around 8:00am Monday, April 13.
Right after shift change, law enforcement personnel lined up their vehicles on Welgelegen Road in front of SMMC’s entrance. As part of the tribute, law enforcement officials presented to SMMC a white banner with blue lettering that said, “Thank you for amazing work, dedication and efforts.”
Justice Minister Anna Richardson was on hand and gave a short address. Wearing a protective face mask, she addressed healthcare workers through the loudspeaker of a parked police truck.
“I must express that there is much emotion going through me right now. … These great men and women [in law enforcement – Ed.] wanted to show their solidarity and appreciation to you, your dedication, and the sacrifice that you are making,” she said.
After Richardson’s address, the law enforcement personnel all turned on their sirens, stood in the street and gave a round of applause for healthcare workers.
