Police in St. Eustatius and the Royal Dutch Marechaussee were out on Thursday afternoon to conduct an investigation into an illegal garbage dump on private property in Coffee Gut.
Property caretaker Ronald “Ronnie” Courtar found two large piles of trash and called on law enforcement authorities for help. The officers took evidence from the site that may point to the person responsible. Courtar said residents should not dispose of waste all over the island, as there is a recycling plant. He could not believe someone would drive so far out to trespass and dump their rubbish on land of others. He hopes the culprit/s will be caught and prosecuted for this reckless behaviour.
