Man arrested for forging Police Chief’s signature

PHILIPSBURG--The St. Maarten Police Force KPSM arrested a man M.R.P. around 1:00pm Thursday for forging Police Chief Carl John’s signature on a travel waiver.

Police requested P. to report to the Philipsburg police station because he was suspected of having recently falsified John’s signature on a travel waiver.

According to police, P. confessed to the forgery and said he did it because his request for a travel waiver had not been handled quickly enough by authorities. Police are currently facing backlogs in issuing travel waivers because of the large number of applications.

After police took P.’s statement, he was given a hefty fine and released.

“The public should take note that forging any signature is a punishable act, and police will take action against anyone who engages in these types of criminal behaviours,” said police in a press release on Thursday evening.
