Man killed in shoot-out

CAPE BAY--Another man has died as a result of violent crime. He was shot in the stomach on Sunday, September 14, and did not survive the incident, a police statement confirms.

Police were called to Aaron Jacobs Drive in Cape Bay around midnight, to attend a report of a man being injured as a result of a shooting.

On route to the location, officers encountered a vehicle driving at very high speed leaving the area of the incident. The vehicle in question was stopped, and it transpired that the female driving had the victim inside the car and was transporting him to St. Maarten Medical Centre (SMMC) with a gunshot wound.

"The investigating officers indeed saw the victim with the initials E.P.K. (26) who is very well known by police in the vehicle and who was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the left side of his body," the report states

The victim is known to be Emilien Kruythoff, who was also known by his nickname "Colo." A source stated that Kruythoff was involved in gang-related crime. It is unknown if there is any relation between this shooting and killings and shootings of recent months.

The police called paramedics, who met the vehicle at Welfare Road and took over the medical care during the transportation of the victim to SMMC in the same vehicle.

Upon Kruythoff's arrival at SMMC, medical staff continued treatment in an attempt to save his life, but around 12:25am he was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty as a result of the wound he sustained.

The body of the victim has been confiscated for further investigation. The crime scene, in the meantime was closed off and the Forensic Department attended to collect evidence whilst detectives spoke to potential witnesses.

Two earlier reports filed by Simpson Bay police patrols stated that they had been called twice during the evening on Sunday to investigate a dispute involving the victim and another man which had become quite heated and in which a gun may have been involved.

At one point during the evening while investigating this case, the patrol saw the victim walking through the area, but when he saw the police patrol he took off running through the dark and the narrow alleys.

Witnesses stated that prior to the fatal shooting they heard an argument going on and also heard several shots being fired. Who fired the shots and why is under investigation by the Detective Department. No suspect has been arrested in this case so far.

Anyone with any information in connection with this case is requested to contact the Police Department on 542222 or via the anonymous tip-line #9300.
