PHILIPSBURG--A man has been arrested on suspicion of multiple car thefts, both on the Dutch side and on the French side of the island.
The 39-year-old suspect, with the initials B.R.M., is originally from the island of Grenada and was arrested by police on Monday, September 15, around 2:00pm on Soualiga Road, on suspicion of thefts between November 2013 and the present time.
A warrant for his arrest was issued as of July 3. The suspect was always able to evade his capture every time the police tried to arrest him.
The suspect at one time made his escape, and in the process, assaulted a police officer. Numerous people and car rental companies on the island have suffered for some time now as a result of car thefts. Many of these stolen cars have been resold to others at a cheap price or were stripped for parts which were then sold.
The detectives in charge of the investigation will be questioning the suspect, who remains in custody, concerning the many thefts.
