AIRPORT--A Dutch military McDonnell Douglas DC-10 aircraft departed from Eindhoven Air Base in the Netherlands on Monday, bound for the Dutch Caribbean with military and law enforcement personnel, as well as goods to assist the islands during the coronavirus COVID-19 crisis. The aircraft arrived in St. Maarten around 2:00pm.
About 20 Royal Dutch Marechaussee KMar officers and an undisclosed number of Royal Dutch Marines disembarked at Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) and are here to augment local law enforcement personnel, many of whom have been working for weeks without an off day.
The aircraft departed for Curaçao around 4:30pm.
According to the Dutch Ministry of Defence, before the arriving reinforcements are deployed on active duty, they will go into quarantine and will be closely monitored by local health authorities.
All arriving personnel have been tested for coronavirus in the Netherlands and their results were negative, said the Dutch Ministry of Defence.
