Curaçao police were dispatched to the deportee barracks at the SDDK prison on Wednesday to suppress unrest. About 47 undocumented Venezuelans tried to escape and started a riot when this failed. They had sawn through bars of their cells but were caught late at night by guards. According to warden Urny Floran, there was much commotion afterwards during which several items including beds, jugs, books, board games and cups inside the facility were destroyed. Order was restored soon after authorities arrived, he added.
