PHILIPSBURG--The Toastmasters community in St. Maarten has a new Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM). Donna Morrison-Wilson reached this highest achievement in the Toastmasters organisation on May 27.
She has been a member of the organisation since 2004 and has held several positions in her club. She served on the executive board for a number of years as Sergeant-at-Arms, twice as Secretary and twice as President of her club and in the 2014-2015 Toastmaster year she served as Area Governor overseeing three clubs on the island.
She is a certified Toastmasters trainer and recently served as a mentor to GEBE’s new Toastmasters Club, The Power to Serve.
The Toastmasters programme helped DTM Morrison-Wilson develop leadership qualities that led her to be a successful businesswoman at her company, Step Out Promotions.
The skills she learned also paved the way for her directorship at the Community Outreach Mentorship and Empowerment International Center (COME) and to be an active leader in her church Thy Kingdom Come Ministries. She is also currently finalising her Ministerial Degree at the Grace Hill Bible University St. Maarten Campus.
She attributes her metamorphosis from a shy person to a leader in the community to the Toastmasters organisation and would like to use her role as a Distinguished Toastmaster to continue to help others to meet their potential and to succeed in their endeavours.
DTM Donna is member of the Philipsburg Toastmasters Club which meets Genevieve De Weever Primary School, Hope Estate on the first, third and fifth Thursdays of every month at 7:30pm. She thanked her fellow Toastmasters in St. Maarten for their assistance over the years.
The Toastmasters programme focuses on communication and leadership projects designed to help persons learn the arts of speaking, listening, and thinking.
