Musical in preparation  for Emancipation Day

ST. EUSTATIUS--With July 1, Emancipation Day, officially voted a public holiday in St. Eustatius, and the importance of persons learning about their ancestors, Gwendoline van Putten secondary school will be presenting the Emancipation “A Journey Home.”

  Teacher Cecilia Gitten-Roosberg said the school has organised several activities geared toward students learning about the history of the island, such as field trips and other activities.

  For the musical, the school is looking for creative singers – choir members and soloists – and actors.

  This musical will be about the past, present and future of Fort Amsterdam, and will be performed around July 1 before for the whole community.

  The students recently took a trip to Fort Amsterdam to learn about this historical site. Gittens-Roosberg said that interested persons can contact her or teacher Jolly van Beelen-Ferwerda as soon as possible for more information.
