PHILIPSBURG--The Nationale Algemene Politie Bond (NAPB) police union says it is keeping a “keen” eye on recent developments within the St. Maarten Police Force and it urges its members to be alert and report any concerns that they may have to the union.
NAPB President Rogerrel Eugenio Mauricia made the statement in a message on the occasion of the eighth anniversary since the St. Maarten Police Force has been in existence. The force came into effect when St. Maarten became a country within the Dutch Kingdom on October 10, 2010.
In his message Mauricia said, “Today, the 10th of October 2018, we are celebrating and remembering that our Police Force of St. Maarten has been in existence for eight years. The mere fact that our members can celebrate this occasion, is for us a great joy. However, we still have a long way to go.”
“The newly elected board, as promised [during – Ed.] my installation as president, is busy with finalising some pending issues for members. We did our working visit to various departments and we heard and saw their concerns that were pointed out to the board members.”
He said the police management team is working on most of the concerns that had been raised. “Other concerns … are also understandable by the members. In certain aspects, a temporary solution is being put so the members can [perform – Ed.] their duties.”
NAPB said members can send their concerns in the form of an e-mail to any NAPB board member. He said the board will soon hold an informative meeting with its members. “We will inform you [members – Ed.] about what the board has been doing since August 9, 2018. In addition to this, we will also inform you [members – Ed.] about our plan for the rest of 2018 as well as 2019.”
