Police seek public’s help to find owners of vehicles

The owners of these seized vehicles could not be identified by the police.

PHILIPSBURG--The St. Maarten Police Force KPSM appeals to the community to find the owners of four stolen vehicles. The VIN numbers and/or engine numbers of the cars are damaged to such an extent that they are illegible.

Police arrested several people over the last few weeks for possession of a stolen vehicle. In the subsequent investigation, it became apparent that these suspects had damaged the VIN and/or engine numbers of the cars in such a manner that it was impossible for police to trace the original owners.

KPSM issued pictures of four stolen cars. Anyone who has information on whom these vehicles belong to is requested to contact the police station in Philipsburg.

“It’s imperative that residents avoid buying possible stolen vehicles,” KPSM warned. “Some buyers have no idea that these vehicles were stolen until it is too late. At that point, they are at a double disadvantage, because the vehicle will be confiscated and the buyer will be arrested. Their investment in the car will be lost.”

KPSM is continuously working to halt the increase in vehicle thefts on both sides of the island. “Only with the help of the community can the circulation of stolen vehicles be halted,” police said.

Police are also requesting that people whose vehicle has been impounded visit the Philipsburg police station to collect their property as soon as possible. Impounded vehicles may be retrieved with ownership paperwork until October 21.
