Promoting accountability

Finance Minister Michael Ferrier recently visited the new offices of the General Audit Chamber on Juancho Yrausquin Boulevard.

The offices pre-Hurricane Irma were housed on E.C. Camille Richardson Street. Secretary-General Joane Dovale-Meit conducted Ferrier on a tour of the offices and explained how the Audit Chamber dealt with the continuity of operations and restoration of facilities. Insurance proceeds were used for the recovery effort, minimizing the burden on the country’s budget. The impact on operations was short. This allowed for audit work to continue as early as October 2017. The Audit Chamber transitioned to cloud-based systems early in 2017. Ferrier has been proactive in maintaining contact with the General Audit Chamber since taking office, according to an Audit Chamber statement. “I’m a believer in accountability and professionalism, and the General Audit Chamber certainly promotes those qualities,” said Ferrier.
