PHILIPSBURG--RBC Royal Bank wrote history on Thursday, when it became the first bank in St. Maarten to launch the exclusive Visa Platinum credit card in local currency: the RBC Rewards Visa Platinum guilder credit card.

With the new Platinum card, customers can pay directly in guilders. In addition, the bank’s new premium card offers flexibility, security and access to the RBC Rewards programme for RBC’s Personal and Business banking clients.

RBC Country Manager for St. Maarten and Saba, Cheryl Pantophlet-Valies said during the launching ceremony that the card opens a world of possibilities for clients, partners and for RBC. Not only because of “the extraordinary rewards” the card offers, but because clients can use the card in St. Maarten and in Curaçao while transacting in guilders. “This means that there will be no conversion to US dollars, which is much more convenient to our clients. The benefit of paying in local currency is obvious: you will know what the transaction involves, and there will be no difference in what was actually paid for a product or service. Of course, as with all Visa credit cards, our RBC Rewards Visa Platinum in guilders can be used for local transactions in St. Maarten and Curaçao, but also around the world.”

All the new Platinum cards in guilders are chip and contactless enabled which guarantees the highest level of security, protection and convenience for all purchases a client will make. The RBC Rewards programme has no travel restrictions and the bank’s clients will have flexibility on how they chose to redeem their reward points. The Platinum guilder card offers premium benefits to both Personal and Business banking clients, such as insurance coverage while you travel, concierge services and other reward-earning opportunities that will allow clients to redeem faster.

Pantophlet-Valies said, “The financial industry is rapidly evolving, with technology and the changing needs of our clients. We have to constantly anticipate to changing expectations and we have to remain flexible and agile in order to maintain strong relationships with our clients and partners. Our new premium RBC Reward Visa Platinum (guilder) credit card represents our commitment to our clients to delivering improved products and solutions that cater to their evolving needs.”

Existing or new clients can apply for the RBC Rewards Visa Platinum guilder credit card and earn reward points every time they make a purchase with the card. New Visa Platinum guilder clients can earn an additional 15,000 bonus points for a limited time.

“We are happy and proud to partner once again with Visa with our RBC Rewards Visa Platinum ANG credit card and deliver value to our customers in St. Maarten. This partnership meets one of our key objectives of being customer focused, and improving the overall product offering to travelling and non-travelling clients”, Pantophlet-Valies noted.

She stressed that RBC will continue to develop and innovate, and we remain committed to helping our clients thrive and the communities in which the bank operate prosper. “Over the past few months, we have introduced various innovative technologies in our markets. For example, we have fully renovated our Philipsburg branch and will officially reopen on November 20; we continue to improve and update our Mobile Banking app, Online Banking website, and our merchant’s Point-of-Sale machines. And today, we are launching the very first local currency/ANG credit card here in St. Maarten, just to name a few. We will continue to invest in our relationship with our clients and strive for constant improvement in how we can support and interact with you. We want to ensure we bring the best solutions and innovative services to you that provide you with choice, flexibility, access and convenience.”
