Residents concerned about safety of unfinished trench

PETERS--Residents of St. Peters continue to complain about the unfinished St. Peters trench work. The work was stalled before the passing of Hurricane Irma in 2017. Students pass through the area during school days and have to navigate on wooden structures to pass through the trench.

Residents are concerned about the safety aspect of the area and hope that work can continue as soon as possible. The Daily Herald understands that Designers Choice was given the contract for the construction of the area several years ago. The company is also charged with the rebuilding of Prins Willem-Alexander School located right behind the works area. The school is yet to be constructed and the project has been experiencing major setbacks.

One resident said that their two children have passed through the pathway for years and when work started on the area, it was a sign of relief, but now that it is 2019, the resident hopes that Public Works does not forget about completing the project.

“Last year, my son slipped and fell inside of the trench while going to school because of the bad weather at the time. Does government even care about what happens there?” stated the parent.

Work was done by contractor Designer’s Choice N.V. in 2016 to finalise the re-construction of the sewage line on Cupper Drive which would connect to the existing sewage line on L.B. Scott Road.
