Police officers trying to revive the man found near the pier on Thursday morning.
PHILIPSBURG--A security guard stationed at Walter Plantz Pier called the police emergency line at 6:45am Thursday, informing them of a body drifting near the pier that was not showing any signs of life.
Police patrols, detectives and paramedics rushed to the scene to investigate what had taken place. On the scene, one of the officers brought the body to shore. An attempt to revive the victim did not have any positive results, according to police.
The victim was later identified as N.A.K. (30) from Guyana, who was known to suffer from mental episodes. The police physician arrived on the scene shortly afterward, pronounced victim dead and stated that the cause of death was drowning.
The investigating officers did not find any indication that foul play had taken place.
The victim’s body was taken to a morgue.
