PHILIPSBURG--Senior Carnival Queen Shanice Powell has her eyes set on the 56th Miss Jaycees Queen show in Antigua, scheduled to take place at the Carnival City this Sunday under the theme, “Nature’s Beauties, A Celebration of the Environment.”
Powell left with chaperone Paula Gordon and hopes to clinch the title on Sunday. She has been drafted as delegate number one and goes up against 14 beautiful, talented and intelligent young ladies.
“I am honoured and humbled to represent my island as the first contestant in the show. I plan to bring my A game and I look forward to the challenge on Sunday. My team has been working hard since I won the crown in St. Maarten and I would like to thank every supporter and sponsor thus far.
“I am super excited and I plan to do my best to bring the crown home. They say number one is a bad number to get, but I will show the world my take on being the opening act.” said Powell on Friday.
Junior Chamber International (JCI) Antigua (formally known as Antigua Junior Chamber) has been producing the Jaycees Queen Show since its inception in 1961. The pageant is held under the main theme “Empowering Women Through Pageantry.” It celebrates the national queens of the region and further afield together on one stage to express the rich culture and heritage of their homelands as well as their individuality in talent, gown, public speaking, physical fitness and poise.
It is the training ground in project management and execution for members both old and new. The show has been an integral part of Antigua’s Carnival almost from its inception.
JCI is a non-profit organisation of active young citizens ages 18-40 who are engaged and committed to creating impact in their communities. Active citizens are individuals invested in the future of the world. JCI gathers active citizens from all sectors of society.
