ST. EUSTATIUS--The Community Service Department of the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church held a Christmas dinner for senior citizens and the less fortunate in St. Eustatius at the church’s basement shelter in Newton’s Pasture on Tuesday, December 27.

Community Service Department leader Gregory Melfor said the soup kitchen serves soup to the less fortunate in the community at least once per week.

Senior citizens from the St. Eustatius Auxiliary Home and the Chapel Piece Health and Recreational Centre and others attended the dinner, which featured appetisers, soup, a main course and desserts. Each dinner guest received a gift bag as they were leaving.

Roy Hooker moderated a quiz on Statia’s history during the event. Musical entertainment was provided by singer/violinist Deshanee Vlijtig and her brother De’shaun Vlijtig, who played the organ.

A pastor installation will take place at the SDA Church during the midday service on Saturday, December 31. North Caribbean Conference President Desmond James will carry out the installation. Saturday will also feature an Old Year’s Service to usher in the New Year.
