Pupils, faculty and staff at Saba’s Sacred Heart School showed their support, understanding, and awareness by decorating the school with a big Down Syndrome ribbon for National Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
Remedial/Special Education teacher Helen Hassell read some stories and gave a brief explanation about Down Syndrome to all pupils. “Educating the students about Down Syndrome will make them more aware that people with Down Syndrome have the abilities to learn just like everyone else,” Hassell said. Everyone was given a Down Syndrome ribbon to show their support. She gave special thanks to Principal Diane Wilson and all the teachers for the opportunity to promote a better understanding and acceptance of all children. “Let’s spread the awareness, not only during the month of October but every day,” said Hassell.
