PHILIPSBURG--The St. Maarten Tourist Bureau (STB), in its continued efforts to bring greater awareness about the country’s tourism industry to the school population, provided an island tour to St. Joseph Primary School Group 8 pupils in connection with the closure of the 2017-2018 school year.

Some 26 pupils ages 11-14 years and their teacher participated in the STB activity last week. STB representative Lisa Noel was the tour guide who provided insightful information about St. Maarten’s tourism industry.

The tour was very interactive and included stops at several of the country’s beaches where Noel took the opportunity to provide information about the importance of keeping the beaches clean. Historical monuments were pointed out to children, including the border monuments. A stop was also made in Marigot, where the students visited the marketplace. Noel pointed out the importance promoting the island as one destination for visitors to visit and enjoy.

“STB will continue working with other elementary and secondary schools with the aim of enhancing their knowledge about the national tourism industry. This activity is part of the ongoing efforts to create more tourism awareness within the St. Maarten community,” according to a statement from STB on Wednesday.
