ROTTERDAM--A 23-year-old man from St. Maarten has been arrested in Rotterdam in connection with the shooting that claimed the life of Rene Paul last Thursday evening.
The Rotterdam police confirmed the man’s arrest on Monday. The man, whose initials have not been released, was arrested despite the fact that the shooting left him severely wounded. He is still in a Rotterdam hospital. Police provided no information about his condition.
The arrested man was found on the street, outside the house on Burgemeester Meineszlaan in Rotterdam-West. The 39-year-old victim was found inside the house. According to police, he originated from Dominica. His name was not mentioned in the brief police press release, but The Daily Herald learned over the weekend that his name was Rene Paul and that he lived in French St. Martin.
A team of 20 detectives is investigating the circumstances of the shooting. Eyewitnesses and other persons involved in the shooting are being interviewed. No other details were released due to the status of the investigation.
