ST. EUSTATIUS--Civil servants in St. Eustatius are taking steps to get in shape. For the next three months, civil servants will spend two hours a week hiking, walking, running, swimming, biking and participating in a range of other fitness activities included in a programme called Vitality 2.0.
This sporting initiative was inspired by the local government Human Resources Department. According to St. Eustatius Sports Facilities Foundation Sports Director Granville Hassell, the programme is designed to promote body, mind and spirit. Eighteen local government staffers attended the first cardio-exercises last week and their enthusiasm was “great,” he said.
“This is the second year that we are running the keep-fit course and feedback has shown that vitality is most definitely created. It is known that office work may contribute to cardiovascular disease. A good group workout is not only good for health, it gives energy, clears the mind and is great for team building.”
