PHILIPSBURG--Prins Willem-Alexander School (PWAS) bade goodbye to its “Super Six Graduates” in a graduation ceremony held at the school premises in Belvedere on June 21.

Graduating were Vince Ault, Diosmeris Carti, Laura Ellis-Brooks, Jamaal Flanders, Jarrell Guy and Tyrese Statie (valedictorian).

School Director Ana Labega said the small number of graduates did not take away from the graduation experience that included steel pan music played by one of the younger pupils.

Cycle Coordinator and Adjunct School Director Norma Barry said, “Small in number, great in achievement, great talent” in describing the graduating group.

Former PWAS pupil Rudolph Davis said in his keynote address, “Graduation is not the final stop, but a launching pad, and in life… you are always learning.” Davis presented his journey and his accomplishments, showing pupils the sky is the limit.

Member of Parliament Silveria Jacobs (National Alliance), who attended the graduation, said “I also believe that having a successful past graduate of the school for special education, Rudolph 'Teacher Rudy' Davis, giving the keynote address was very inspirational to the graduates, parents and teachers alike.”

On the overall experience, Jacobs said it was a pleasure to see the appreciation of management and staff for the school equipment and innovations she specifically had requested and approved while serving as Minister. “I was also proud to see how sports, arts, technology and, most of all, caring teachers, positively influence the life of a child … especially a child with special needs.”

Also in attendance were Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs acting Secretary-General Shermina Powell-Richardson, representing Minister Jorien Wuite, and Head of Public Education Glenderlin Davis-Holiday.
