ST. EUSTATIUS--The third Annual Teachers Awards are scheduled to be handed out on October 23. New and different awards will be presented by Foundation for Reinforcing Education, Arts, Literature and Culture (For REAL-C), such as the Foundation Builders, Principal’s Award, Diamond Jubilee Award and the National Appreciation Awards.
“For the past years we have had a fully-booked event, and this year will be no less,” said organiser Christina Timber-Glover. Preceding the awards dinner gala, a red-carpet cocktail reception, which was one of the highlights during last year’s event, will take place.
With today, Tuesday, October 5, recognised as World Teachers Day, Timber-Glover extended her congratulations to all teachers around the world, and especially those on Statia. She thanked them for their “dedication, support and fortitude” during the past year and a half and she wished them “much strength going forward”.
Timber-Glover said that For REAL-C has adopted the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO World Teachers Day theme for 2021, “Teachers at the heart of education recovery”.
“It is important that everyone continues to celebrate, appreciate and recognise teachers and the important role they continue to play,” also during the coronavirus pandemic.
“Recovery [from the pandemic – Ed.] has different aspects: support from government, parents, professionalisation of teachers, training new teachers with the demand of our ‘new’ world, and ensuring teachers have the opportunity to socialise and interact with colleagues, to name a few,” Timber-Glover said.
“The organisation is extremely proud that this event plays an important role in recognising Statia’s educators for their continued and valuable dedication and outstanding commitment to education in St. Eustatius.”
