ST. JOHN’S ESTATE--White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation (WYCFF) has confirmed three cases of COVID-19 in its nursing home.
WYCCF operations manager Bregje Boetekees made the announcement on WYCCF’s Facebook page on Sunday, August 30. “We are sad to report that three clients in our nursing home have tested positive for COVID-19. They all live in the same wing of our nursing home,” she said.
All other WYCCF clients, family members and staff who may have had direct contact with these persons were duly informed. Collective Prevention Services (CPS) contacted them and has started contact-tracing. Everyone who has had direct contact with the clients has been placed in quarantine.
Two other clients residing in the same wing as the positive clients have both been tested for COVID-19 and their results are negative. They will remain in quarantine for 14 days.
“The clients who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 are all receiving full care and treatment in our separate unit with our dedicated eight team members, who have been training for this since early March of this year,” said Boetekees.
St. Martin’s Home will remain closed for all visitors until further notice. During this time family and friends may keep in touch with loved ones during the virtual visiting hours between 10:00am and 6:00pm.

“We wish everyone a speedy recovery and will continue with all our strict measures to prevent new infections,” added Boetekees. “You can help us by washing your hands frequently, keeping two metres away from everyone not in your household, wearing a mask when keeping distance is not possible and always cough/sneeze in your elbow or a single-use tissue.
“If you have any signs or symptoms (even if very mild) call your family doctor and get tested by the great team of CPS. When everyone consistently follows these guidelines we can slow and stop the spread of COVID-19 on our island.”
