Toastmaster Shirma France to represent St. Martin in Barbados

MARIGOT--Toastmaster Shirma France representing Saint-Martin Evolution Toastmasters Club won the International Territorial Speech Contest held at St. Maarten Academy on April 7. Winning the Area Speech contest on March 10 enabled her to compete on the Territorial level.

The audience was able to relate to her speech entitled “Culture Shock” where she highlighted the many differences encountered when she relocated to St. Maarten.

Her competitor Toastmaster Patricia Jardine’s presentation was also compelling as she outlined her “Determination” in many areas of her life. She landed her very first job through sheer determination.

Toastmasters Melissa Grinuva and Sharika Ramsey were the competitors for the Table Topics contest. Both ladies had two minutes to “think on their feet” based on the topic “The Dump is on Fire.” Both touched on important points such as to avoid the Philipsburg area when the dump is burning, wearing a mask if you have allergies, and the need for Government to look into relocating the dump. Grinuva was the victor for this contest.

Frances and Grinuva will both represent St. Maarten/St. Martin at the District International Speech Contest in Barbados during the annual Toastmasters Conference May 19-20.

Should France be victorious she will go on to represent District 81 at the International speech contest at the International Toastmasters Convention in Canada in August.

Saint-Martin Evolution Toastmasters Club extended kudos to all who participated at this event, congratulated the winners and wished them much success in Barbados.
