The Council of Advice hosted a public lecture titled “The Separation of Powers: an elucidation on the theory and the practice in our system of governing” at University of St. Martin on Thursday.
The speakers, attorneys Nilda Arduin and Reynold Groeneveldt, highlighted the theory of the separation of powers in its purest form and delved into the practical aspects of the separation of powers, such as the instances where these independent powers overlap. Arduin is currently the country’s ombudsman and Groeneveldt is acting governor. The lecture was “in an effort to increase awareness and understanding of good governance as well as stimulate the discussion amongst our population in the hope of promoting active citizenry,” said the Council.
