DUTCH QUARTER--The St. Maarten Police Force KPSM arrested two men S.G. and A.J.U. in Dutch Quarter on Wednesday, on suspicion of car theft. Police also confiscated the cars they were driving.
Police said the vehicles were checked as part of KPSM’s car-theft suppression plan, in which officers conduct controls on vehicles suspected of being stolen.
“While checking the VINs [vehicle identification numbers – Ed.] on the two vehicles driven by the suspects, it was evident to the officers that the numbers were tampered with,” said police in a press release on Thursday.
The vehicles driven by the suspects – a blue Kia Picanto and a grey Hyundai i-10 – were confiscated.
“The two suspects are being held at the police station in Philipsburg, pending further investigation. The investigation into car theft is still ongoing,” said police.
